Digit span wais iv1/8/2024 ![]() Do one test, do more, then post your scores and others based on their knowledge of the test will approximate what you might score on a real test. ![]() There will be more outliers than what one would get from an actual official but that's why we have more than a single test for it. Of course, that doesn't mean it should act as a substitute for the real thing but for the majority it provides a well enough measure. ![]() Because - it's just correlations.Īs long as "this" test correlated with this other professional test, and it did the same for several other people, then it's somewhat reliable. This is predominantly a IQ testing sub with one of its purposes being able to provide "good" IQ tests for free or their decent substitutions in that regard and people won't get out of their way to actually assess or verify every test out there. I mean, it's not even close to being the same thing, yeah? Having activities that superficially resemble WAIS-IV subtests is really not actually the same as taking a well-designed, nationally normed, theoretically sound, reliable, and valid cognitive test. Or it could be a little like me selling snake oil to people in bottles that resemble actual medicine bottles, and then claiming my snake oil is just as medicinal because the bottle kind of looks like the bottle that contains actual medicine. It would be a little like me creating a room that looks like the x-ray station at my physician's office, and then claiming that the "x-rays" I draw when in that room are reliable and valid because my cleverly-painted box superficially resembles an actual x-ray. It's basically an online "activity" posing as a test, and claiming to be a valid test simply because it superficially resembles a genuinely valid and reliable and well-researched and widely-accepted test. You begin to see where my criticism of it comes from, yeah? How could those traits possibly make it reliable, valid, useful, or predictive of, well, anything? Thanks for your time, hopefully I didn't ramble on too much. So, it sounds like you're saying that this specific "digit span" test is not administered under standardized conditions, and it does not have a normative group who had it administered under standardized conditions? He suggested therapy to try and work through my mental blocks, building confidence, "opening my eyes to the same potential that everyone else around you already sees."ĭoes that result seem reasonable? What could be a common cause for an average PSI when everything else is "Above Average" or "Superior"? With all of that information combined, he stated that it was likely that my lower processing speed coupled with my high intelligence was causing me to feel a profound lack of confidence and that everyone around me has a better perception about my true potential. I also tend to score myself low in work performance reviews where my peers score me above average. I universally scored myself very poorly in the ADHD stuff while my observer scored me within average ranges. Ultimately the psychologist stated I did not have ADHD. I also participated in an in-person WAIS-IV evaluation. ![]() So I set up some time with an ADHD specialist and went through a battery of ADHD tests, which included giving similar tests to an "observer" in my life. I have this feeling like I could be achieving so much but I'm just.not. I did pretty poorly in college (2.8 major GPA, lots of procrastination, etc.). I have trouble with being easily distracted, starting, and finishing tasks. Some background, I'm in my mid-30s and I had been seeing a lot of information and stories about Adult ADHD and they resonated with my personal experiences, especially the last few years as my responsibilities have increased (jobs, house, kids, etc.). I received WAIS-IV results from a psychologist today and I'd be interested on other peoples' perspectives on the results because my PSI score stands out as lower than my other scores. ![]()

![]() ![]() It brought unstoppable energy to the long-term work at CVRTI and U of U Health, Shaw said. While the total artificial heart remained an important option for a minority of patients over the next 40 years, with 306 implanted so far, the Clark legacy did more than that. The institute’s innovations have included identifying the genetic and acquired origins of long QT syndrome, which leads to sudden cardiac death mapping heart electrical activity, a technique that laid the groundwork for non-invasive cardiac ablation to treat dangerously irregular heartbeats understanding how left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) can promote myocardial recovery and use this to develop new drug therapies for heart failure and now working toward developing a gene therapy-made possible by the recent discovery of the cardiac BIN1 protein-that may drastically improve options for patients with chronic heart failure.Īs Stavros Drakos, MD, PhD, a physician-scientist at CVRTI, medical director of the clinical LVAD program, and professor of cardiology at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University of Utah, said, “We are invested in figuring out how to help a failing heart recover its function with just a little help from us.” The accomplishment is made possible by interdisciplinary collaboration across three colleges and six departments at U of U Health. Inspired in large part by Clark’s milestone procedure, CVRTI has been at the forefront of groundbreaking new approaches to cardiovascular disease. I truly believe the Jarvik-7 heart is the model of how that can be done.” “We have all the personnel-and are still working on bringing in more-to do not just basic science but the translational implementation and bring it to the bedside,” Shaw said. With CVRTI opening a new wing to expand its laboratories to 20 in total, Shaw said, its national reputation as the largest freestanding collection of researchers in muscle biology, metabolism, and electrophysiology would continue. The roots of the Jarvik-7 artificial heart trace back to Kolff, a Dutch immigrant, inventor, and worldwide pioneer, who joined the University of Utah in 1967 to run its artificial organs division at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering. Which is where Barney Clark’s legacy comes in.īehind the gift of each day that Clark got to live after his life-changing operation lay 20 years of driven, innovative work. each year, that barely even begins to address the sheer number of those in heart failure praying for a healthy heart. While around 3,500 heart transplants are performed in the U.S. In advanced stages, patients’ chronic state of breathlessness all but immobilizes them. For patients living with the serious condition, it means a significantly reduced quality of life. Heart failure-related hospitalization is the single highest health care cost to Medicare. There are 800,000 new diagnoses of heart failure each year in the United States, and it contributes to the death of 400,000 Americans annually. More than 6,000,000 Americans live with chronic congestive heart failure, which is the inability of the heart to effectively pump blood around the body. Yet often the patients then develop heart failure. At present, damaged hearts can survive arterial blockages, thanks to drugs, stents, and bypass surgery. Deaths from heart attacks, which are blockages of the arteries of the heart, are a quarter of what they were decades ago. That’s because heart research historically focused on vascular biology-with clear results. He wanted to “leave a small mark in the world,” he told his wife, and admittedly it would be “nice to brush my teeth and comb my hair without being exhausted.” Fundamental to his decision was a desire to give back. “I have some problems that this cow doesn’t have-it’s healthy going into this, I’m not.”īut when his son had to carry his too-sick-to-walk father to the Thanksgiving table, Clark changed his mind. When he watched DeVries, at the surgeon’s invitation, implant the latest University of Utah Health iteration of its total artificial heart, the Jarvik-7, in a cow and saw how it woke up and walked around, he declined to take part. ![]() The war veteran had a loving family and was in class IV heart failure, entering a terminal stage of the disease. That person needed to be in severe heart failure, over 60 with strong family support, and without any other medical options.Īnderson suggested his patient, Barney Clark, DDS, a 61-year-old Utah-born, Seattle-based dentist. The only problem was that DeVries, a cardiothoracic surgeon, didn’t have a patient who met the requirements for this revolutionary advance. ![]()

Who framed roger rabbit video game1/7/2024 ![]() ![]() It’s got nice color, but it’s got limited articulation. I was hoping to get Venom, but this one’s alright. These were $2.99 and they were blind-boxed. I got the Ultimate Spider-Man “Action Vignette Figure” from one of the shops across the street. My wife got a nice pink folding knife(which is very sharp), and a souvenir glass. We ended up getting a decent amount of tickets for what we spent, so we got a few decent prizes. After the show, you get a little plastic egg with a small prize inside(like any toy vending machine, except it’s a plastic Easter egg) The prizes aren’t all that great(I got a little plastic box to put teeth into for the tooth fairy), but the parrot’s performance is so worth it. I played 2 games on the Funhouse one, which is one of my all time favorite pinball games.įor 25 cents, the parrot will spin and flap it’s wings, then say, “I love the sound of money. The picture I took of the classics accidentally got deleted, but I did get a few shots of the pinball machines. Among all of the ticket spitting machines, you have you typical video games. Of course the prizes are never worth the amount of money you plunk down to win them, but it’s all about the thrill of winning! The highlight of these games was when my wife hit 300 tickets on a single quarter. My favorite part of these waterfront communities is the casino arcades. I will be going back to Lake George in September(for the Adirondack Nationals car show), so I’ll make it a point to go to Dr. It was a pretty decent sized walk through and great in it’s own cheesy way. But I also got a few shots inside of the lobby(where the flash wasn’t an issue). I couldn’t get the flash to shut off, so I only got a few shots inside of the attraction(and the didn’t come out too good). I asked if I could take pictures inside, and was told I could, just without the flash. There were scenes of grisly murder, as well as scenes depicting the Salem witch trials, and even Dr. It seems the theme here was death and horror. Now this wasn’t a typical celebrity or historical wax museum. Morbid’s Haunted House, and there’s a wax museum. There are few attractions in the area, that have peaked my interest in the past, and I got to experience one of them this past weekend. Lake George is definitely a big tourist area. It seems to make you forget everything(in a good way). Camping on vacation is a little different than a vacation when you stay at a hotel. For the holiday weekend, we went camping up at Schroon Valley Resort in Lake George. I hope everyone had a fun 4th of July weekend. ![]()

Fatal familial insomnia prion1/6/2024 ![]() ![]() Further, husky voice was reported in 22% of FFI patients in Germany 9. Irregular breathing, hypnic jerks, propriospinal myoclonus at the wake-sleep transition, and quasi-purposeful limb gestures are considered to be characteristic features of FFI 6, 7. In some cases, FFI was characterized by the lack of REM-associated muscle atonia and the presence of jerky activity of limb muscles and irregular breathing 8. In FFI, PSG has disclosed a severely reduced total sleep time, reduced rapid eye movement (REM) sleep and abnormal stage shifts. Polysomnography (PSG) recordings document the biophysiological changes that occur during sleep. FFI is mainly characterized by prominent sleep impairment combined with neuropsychiatric disorders, dysautonomia and motor dysfunction 7. Phenotypic variability is a perplexing feature of FFI. Pathologically, FFI is characterized by predominant thalamic degeneration especially in the medio-dorsal and anterio-ventral nuclei 5, 6. The prevalence of FFI is one case per a million population per year, with only about 57 cases in 27 kindreds have been reported worldwide 2.įFI is an autosomal dominant disease that harbors a missense GAC to AAC mutation at codon 178 of the PRNP prion protein gene located on chromosome 20, along with the presence of the methionine polymorphism at position 129 of the mutant allele 3, 4. We propose that structural damages in the thalamus and cortex are mostly responsible for clinical manifestations of FFI.įatal familial insomnia (FFI) is a rare prion disease first described by Lugaresi et al., in 1986 1. In summary, Chinese FFI patients are typically characterized by organic sleep related symptoms, rapidly progressive dementia and sympathetic symptoms. Patient 2's emission tomography scan demonstrated a reduction in glucose uptake in the left thalamus and bilateral inferior parietal lobe. PSG of all these five cases showed reduction in total sleep time, sleep fragmentation, abnormal short non-rapid eye movement - rapid eye movement (REM) cycling, REM sleep reduction or loss, and REM sleep instruction in wakefulness. The most typical clinical manifestations in all 5 patients were sleep disturbances, including insomnia, laryngeal stridor, sleep breath disturbance, and sleep-related involuntary movements. Three of the five patients had more comprehensive family medical records. Two male and three female patients were recruited in this study. The clinical features and the results of the complementary tests, including polysomnography (PSG), brain imaging and genetic analysis, were used. Patients with confirmed clinical and laboratory diagnosis of FFI have been retrospectively reviewed. This study aimed to examine clinical features, sleep, abnormal sleep-wake transition and non-sleep disturbances as well as lab tests in Chinese fatal familial insomnia (FFI) subjects. ![]()
